While the men handed the task of leading Liverpool to glory continue to fail so badly, Shannon's under-17 side showed their more illustrious colleagues the way to goal by recording an impressive 5-1 win over North-West rivals Manchester City.
Shannon said: "I am very pleased with the performance. When you have a break you don't want to go into it with a disappointing performance. Fortunately we got the performance, the result and a lot of goals.
"The weekend was capped off with Jon Otsemobor's performance for the first team. That gives everyone a big lift because it is nice when one of your Academy players plays in the first team and does well."
