Gonzales eager for debut

Gonzales is likely to make his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt in the Reds' pre-season friendly with Crewe this Saturday. Gonzales has waited a year to make his Liverpool bow and is looking forward to it.

"I watched a lot of Liverpool's games last season and a lot of other English football because I wanted to be properly prepared for what lies ahead. I didn't want to come here cold so I have done my homework," said the Chilean winger.

"In Spain if you are touched by a defender it is a foul every time. The same is not true in England. Most times when you are touched it is play on so I have to be aware of that. I will just have to get used to that style of play.

"I hope I can make an impact in English football straightaway and I hope that all my homework stands me in good stead but if it takes me a little while to find my feet then I would think that is only normal.

"I'm new here and what I will have to do is train hard and play hard when I get the chance if I want to really stake my claim for a place in the first team."
