Guthrie joins Newcastle

Liverpool accepted an undisclosed sum for the midfielder, who spent a successful season on loan with Bolton last season, last week. Now, after agreeing personal terms with the Geordies, Guthrie has completed his transfer.

"He proved himself in the Premier League last season so we know he can play at that level," said the Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan.

"He's at the right age and is a good signing for us."
