Guti wants to play alongside Gerrard

Guti bumped into Gerrard on an Ibiza beach earlier in the week and when the pair were photographed together Madrid tried to use the photo to unsettle Gerrard by claiming he would link up well with the Spaniard at the Bernabau.

However, Madrid's underhand tactics backfired with Guti claiming he wants to play alongside Gerrard at Liverpool rather than Madrid.

Guti said: "There is nothing concrete but I have always said that if I left Madrid, I would like to play in the Premiership. The English league is ideal. I have a contract with Madrid until 2008 but it is true that I hope to start a new period in my career at another team."
