Hamann frustrated with inconsistent Reds

The 30-year-old former Bayern Munich star feels that Monday's 2-2 draw at out-of-form Manchester City, in which the 30-year-old gave Liverpool a lead they were to squander deep into injury-time, typified the frustrating displays given by the Reds this season.

Hamann said: "The Manchester City game probably summed up our season so far. It has been an up and down season and we haven't been consistent enough. It is not good enough for a club with our standards.

"We have to be more consistent, otherwise it will be very hard for us to get fourth place which is what we all want.

"City outplayed us in the first half and we were lucky to be only 1-0 down at half time. It's hard to say why we were so poor in the first half as it was like they had an extra man than us.

"We couldn't cope with them and couldn't get near them. We got it together in the second half and equalised, then hit a post before we went 2-1 up.

"We needed a third goal to kill the match off but couldn't get it and then you can never switch off when Robbie Fowler is on the pitch."
