Hamann: League is the priority

The German midfielder was understandably disappointed with Wednesday's 1-0 defeat against Valencia at Anfield, but has set his sights firmly on winning the Premiership.

He said: "Liverpool haven't won the league for 12 years, so I think that winning the Champions League is probably a step too far.

"The first step is to win the league, the best team wins it after 38 games and you can't complain about good luck or bad luck then.

"By then you have seen the best team in the league. We haven't done much at this club for the last 12 years, so this is the main target for the lads."
