Hamann: Losing Gerrard will be a blow

Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann is hoping that Steven Gerrard won't be ruled out of this weekend's Merseyside derby.

Gerrard was carried off last night with a groin injury and will undergo a medical examination today to determine the extent of the injury. If he's ruled out, Hamann admits this will be a blow but he insists that there are others capable of deputising.

"It will be a blow for us if he is ruled out or has to miss a few games and we are just hoping it's not too serious," said Didi. "But if he isn't available then we have other players who can come in and do the job. That's why we have such a big squad here."
