The German international, who has been sorely missed since being sidelined with a shin injury, says the Reds can reverse their current fortunes and be crowned champions.

He said: "If we won three games in a row we would be right back. The quality is there. The season is still long and a lot can happen but it will be hard to win the title, but the team is strong enough to do so.

He added: "It is normal that the media are now critical of Gerard Houllier. With such a poor streak it's obvious, but it is actually more the players' fault.
"There have been hard times, but we have to work harder and we'll soon start winning again.

"Our losing streak is incredible because usually it is very hard to beat us. Nothing seems to work at the moment because of confidence. It is clearly a psychological problem."
