Hamann is in the final year of his current contract and can sign a pre-Bosman deal with another club from January 1st. However, Didi insists he wants to see out the rest of his career at Anfield and will sign a new contract if offered one.

"It's good news about Stevie and obviously a big boost for everyone to hear that such an influential individual as him wants to stay on board for a few more years," says Didi.

"He's the captain of the team and a very important player for the club.

"As for my future, we've talked with the club and I'm very hopeful we can get things sorted sooner rather than later.

"I want to stay here. I've no intention of going anywhere else and therefore haven't spoken to any other club.

"My focus is on Liverpool and hopefully I've also got a few more years left here."

Rafael Benitez is keen to sign Hamann up on a new contract and a deal should be sorted in the new year.
