Hansen: Discipline is vital

"As a player its all about keeping a cool head particularly when you're a Liverpool player going to Goodison," he told LFC magazine. "Saturday's trip across Stanley Park will be a big test for Steven Gerrard.

"The wind-up merchants will look for Gerrard and that will be no different at Goodison. Steven Gerrard is a fantastic footballer but he is guilty of being impetuous at times. He's got to curtail that because he doesn't need that in his game.

"Staying on your feet is crucial in a Merseyside derby. The last thing you want to do is dive in and get yourself an early booking because you're walking a tightrope then.

"If you're going to win the derby then it's all about having the right state of mind. Discipline is vital."
