The 24-year-old midfielder was still an integral part of the Leeds team when he was a mere spectator for Liverpool's famous 2-0 victory over Italian giants Roma that booked a place in the last eight of the Champions League.

"One game I watched that does stick out is the second Roma game when the manager came back after his illness and Emile headed in the winner. It was a great night!," revealed Kewell.

"I got the offer to come along from my agent, who was going to the game anyway, so we made the journey across that dreaded road through the Pennines and were rewarded with a great night.

"The experience brought it home to me what a great atmosphere there really is around Liverpool. It was a great feeling, and although I wouldn't say that was the reason why I chose to come here - I came here to improve my football - it was a special occasion."
