Gerard Houllier has given Diouf time off to spend with his family and he isn't expected to return until at least the weekend.
"El-Hadji Diouf was given permission by the manager and the club to return to Senegal to see his stepfather who is dying of cancer," said Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton.
"He has been given leave and is not expected to return to Merseyside until the weekend."
