Hearts want Mellor

The Scottish side, who are currently in second place in the SPL, have been given permission to speak to Mellor by the Reds. Mellor has only just returned from a serious knee injury and has found Peter Crouch, Fernando Morientes, Djibril Cisse and Florent Sinama-Pongolle all ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order so he may agree to a move before the transfer window closes.

"Hearts are very interested in Neil and they have spoken to Liverpool about him," said Mellor's agent Mick McGuire.

"I spoke to Rick Parry and Liverpool have given Neil permission to speak to Hearts about a potential move.

"Neil is keeping an open mind on his future and he is happy to go up and talk to Hearts.

"There has been interest from several other clubs and Neil is weighing up his options and he is not ruling out staying at Liverpool as he still has a contract there."
