The Norwegian is out of contract at the end of the season and had been considering hanging up his boots, but a move back to Norway could be what he needs.

"We want to welcome Vegard, and are willing to use resources on him to get him fit, but we will not use money on a contract," said Rosenborg director Rune Bratseth. "He hasn't been on the pitch in years.

"If it turns out that he is going to be fit again, he will get a contract. Vegard is after all an extremely good player.

"Vegard have done a great job for Rosenborg and have been a part of our good economics, so of course is he welcomed here."
