Heggem set to leave Anfield

Heggem, who has not played for the Reds since October 2000, was told on Thursday that his contract, which runs out in the summer, will not be renewed.

The news did not come as a surprise to anyone involved at Anfield. Heggem's attacking skills down the right could have been a boon in a flagging Anfield season if the former Rosenborg player could have maintained his fitness.

The player is expected to participate in reserve games in a bid to attract a new club for next season.
