"After close liaison with Manchester United, we have implemented extra security for the game and ask that all supporters be patient with our checks and help us where they can, by arriving early, bringing minimal baggage and remaining vigilant both in and around the ground," said Chief Superintendent Dave Ryder, of Greater Manchester police.

"Following the arrest of 10 people in anti-terrorism raids on Monday much speculation has been generated about the intended target of any possible attack.

"Whilst the policing operation and investigation continues, we would like to reassure visitors to the ground that public safety is always paramount in our work."

Police will be opening the gates extra early at 12.45pm for the 3pm kick off so every supporter gets into the ground on time., and fans will be stopped and searched on their way to the ground.
