Liverpool beat Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield last night to record a 7-3 aggregate win and book their place in the FA Youth Cup final and earn the praise of Steve Heighway.

"The biggest motivation for the players is coming through together since they were eight-years-old. Nine of them have been at the club together since they were eight. The like each other so much, and know each other so much," said the Academy Director.

"They have always had a dream they might achieve something together one day. After this year they are not youth players anymore - they are adults. This is the end of my time with them and their time with me. That means something I suppose.

"But that is 14 [Youth Cup] games since the start of last year. That is an amazing run. I have got great faith in them. They always seem to come up with something even when they are not playing well.

"We had to have a go of them at half-time because they know they can do better. But they responded.

"Once it went to 10 against 10 we played some really good stuff.

"I have seen Arsenal and Man United and they are both football teams. It will be great final."
