Heinze faces Reality

It is thought a fee of around £8m has been agreed with the Spanish side, which will bring to a close the ongoing saga of Heinze's future.

A statement on the Spanish club's website stated that, "Real Madrid and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Heinze. The Argentinian, 29, will sign a contract for the next four seasons.."

Liverpool had come close to signing the Argentinian defender in recent weeks, but queries arose when Utd's terms of sale apparently prohibited the player from moving to another Premier League side. A Premier League panel investigated the case and concluded in United's favour, making any move to Anfield impossible.
