The Saints have a new manager in Paul Sturrock, who will be hoping for a win in his first game in charge.

But Liverpool's Swiss defender believes the Reds just need to be patient.

"Having a new manager will probably give them a boost but it doesn't mean they will play better," he said. "They may start a bit stronger in the first 20 minutes but it's up to us to calm them down.

"The battle for fourth place is very tough and it's very tight. Newcastle are probably the main rivals but we have 11 games to play. The programme left is not too bad for us with seven home games."
