"Inevitably, I am asking myself questions. Even if it's for the good of the team, I still don't understand why I have been left out," the Swiss defender told Swiss paper Le Matin.
"I'm not used to sitting on the bench. The Liverpool fans don't understand it, either.
"I have not spoken to the manager about it. Gerard Houllier has not spoken to me and I'm not the kind of person to go looking to speak to him.
"There are many question marks about the future. Everyone is asking about what will happen, not just me.
"The manager's future is uncertain and the club will lose a lot of money if we don't qualify for the Champions' League for the second consecutive season.
"We have eight matches left and it's imperative we finish fourth."
