Having played alongside the dynamic Anfield skipper during a turbulent season for the Reds', Henchoz is well aware of the huge threat Gerrard will pose to his nation.
Henchoz said: "I know we will have to face him in the European Championships and he has developed into one of the best players in the world. He has an amazing fighting spirit and has led by example in the past few months which at times have been difficult for the club.
"I don't think there are many better players in his position throughout Europe. In fact at times he looks the best."
