Henchoz hopes in the balance

The 29-year-old Swiss stalwart is still suffering with the groin injury that forced him out of the win over Middlesbrough at the half-time interval.

Gerard Houllier concedes that the in-form defender would be sorely missed at St Andrews, but he is only too happy to turn to the versatile Jamie Carragher if Henchoz is ruled out.

Houllier said: "We are training this afternoon and will see how Stephane is.
First of all we have to see if he can train or not and then, if he does, how he reacts.

"Stephane has been back to his best form over recent weeks after a spell where he was a bit in and out. He'll be the first to acknowledge that.

"If he's not fit then Jamie Carragher has proved he can fill in at centre back and do a good job for us."
