The Swiss defender has been out for around two months after undergoing a calf operation, and made his first appearance for the Reds last night in a Reserve team win against West Brom.

And now after completing 45 minutes in the 3-1 victory Henchoz says he is 'desperate' to play some part in what is Liverpool's biggest League match of the season so far.

He said: "I was pleased to be able to get through the 45 minutes without any problems. I felt quite good out there.

"It was always the plan just to play for 45 minutes because eight weeks is a long time to be out of football and I have to be careful. I don't want to rush myself back too soon. I have only had a few training sessions and one half of a game so it's still early days.

"There are a lot of big games coming up for us and I am desperate to be involved in them. It's up to the manager to decide when I am ready to come back now but I think I still need a few more training sessions before I can play for the first team.

"Djimi has been very good. He has done extremely well. It makes things easier when your replacement is doing well because it means there is no major rush for me to come back.

"Obviously the last two months have been frustrating because I have missed so many games, but injuries are part of football.

"But there are still many huge games ahead of us, particularly over the next month when we play the top sides around us in the table. I am hoping to be involved in all of them."
