John Arne Riise and Michael Owen had given the Reds a 2-0 lead within the first quarter of an hour before 2 goals for new boy Jib Cisse and the historic first from Stephane Henchoz in the second half completed the rout.
Igor Biscan gave another competent performance in midfield to give Rafael Benitez a nice little selection problem.
