Herrera sad to be leaving

Chief scout and reserve team boss Paco Herrera is reluctantly leaving Liverpool next month to return to Spain to be with his family. Herrera admits the leaving of Liverpool was not an easy decision to make.

"My decision is simple. I tried to bring my family here, my wife and my daughters, but it is very difficult. We have been talking about getting them to come here but it's impossible. I needed to make a decision so I talked with Rafa. He understands the situation," he said.

"I am very happy here, I enjoy my work for Liverpool at Melwood, all the people at Melwood are fantastic. It's difficult because in one month I'll be leaving.

"I am upset because I am leaving. I don't want to think about my future until I leave. If you leave Liverpool, it's difficult.

"I think when I leave, it's not important. Frank McParland is working very hard in the scout department; Hughie McAuley knows the reserve team. No-one will miss, maybe as a person because now they are my friends but not for my work. My work is all the staff's work.

"Now I think we have a very good scout department. The reserve team is also a new team – a very young team, people say the youngest in the club's history. I think if we sign two or three young players, the reserve team will be right at the top.

"I think we are getting to where we want to be. We have signed some young players and players for the first team. I think this group can now fight for the league. That is the most important thing, to win the league."
