Heskey: Criticism is unjust

Heskey feels that it must be remembered that he has played on the left side of midfield for much of the season to accomodate Milan Baros and El-Hadji Diouf. Now that he has been restored to his natural position, Heskey believes he will weigh in with his fair share of goals.

Heskey said: "You are there to be shot at, but I've been criticised as a striker when that's not been the position I've been operating in.

"I've been playing down the left. If I'd flopped at the job I think suits me best, there would be no excuses.

"Strikers thrive on goals and I know I will get my fair share when I'm given the opportunity to do the most damage."

The England player is also keen to insist that the Reds can still end the season with a feeling of pride in their achievements.

"A lot of people have written us off, but we are still in with a shout of qualifying for the Champions League, and we can still win the Worthington Cup.

"More than a few teams would love our position."
