Heskey has nothing to prove

The 26-year-old took time out from training with the England squad in Sardinia to speak fondly of the four years he spent at Anfield before agreeing to make the switch to Steve Bruce's improving side.

Heskey said: "I enjoyed myself a lot at Liverpool, it was brilliant. My first two seasons were especially good as I was playing regularly and really well.

"Obviously after that it wasn't so good and I had a lot of ups and downs since then, on and off the bench and with a few injuries.

"It's always nice to have a fresh challenge. It came to a stage at Liverpool where I felt I needed to move on to get going again.

"I don't really think that I have a point to prove though. What sort of point do I need to prove? I will just go out there and play."
