In-form Michael Owen notched his sixth Premiership goal of the season from the penalty spot after twenty minutes while Heskey secured the victory before Marcus Bent added a late consolation goal for the visitors.
The win, which was Liverpool's first home success of the campaign, moves Gerard Houllier's side into the top six - just two points adrift of new league leaders Chelsea.
