Hicks promises summer bonanza

Speaking about the club's financial position and suggestions that Rafael Benitez has not been given the funds needed to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window, he insists that things are on track and managing director Christian Purslow will make it happen.

"Our debt is very manageable and we never use player sales for debt service," he said.

"Our interest on £200 mm is about 16mm. The new stadium will be the game changer. Christian is working very hard on it.

"January is a poor quality market. The summer window will be big."
