Hillsborough Anniversary

Indeed, it seems a fitting tribute that the team those fans loved should play so well prior to the anniversary of one of Liverpool's darkest days.

And whilst the result yesterday was important, we should all now take a few moments to remember all 96 fans who lost their lives 16 years ago.

In their memory, a service is to be held in the Kop, starting at 2.45pm, to remember all those fans who never returned from Hillsborough.

Phil Hammond, Chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group said: "We light a candle to remember each individual life that was extinguished prematurely and we rely upon the eternal flame of the Hillsborough Memorial to burn some light into the darkest night."

Tickets are not required, although the club are asking fans to be in their seats by 2pm, in order for the service to begin promptly.

And whilst some of us will not be able to attend, Mr Hammond has asked the Red family to come together wherever we are to remember all those 96 fans who died.

He said: "For many, Friday, 15th April will be just a 'normal working day' and there will be others who are unable to attend - despite wishing otherwise. We invite them to join us in spirit and spare a thought. Say a private prayer or even light a candle in their minds."

For the 96, R.I.P.
