Hobbs hoping for breakthrough

The 19 year old centre back and former reserve team captain made five first team appearances last season before going on loan to Championship side Scunthorpe. He is now looking to push on and make more of an impact in Liverpool's first team squad.

"It's fantastic being a part of the first-team set-up again and I am working as hard as I can to try and impress the manager," said Hobbs.

"It's really good to be back and you get looked after so well when you come on tour.

"I feel I have done okay in the games I've played in so far. I missed the Lucerne game with a slight knock, which was disappointing; but it's been good for me to have been involved in the games against Tranmere and Wisla Krakow.

"Hopefully I will be involved against Hertha Berlin and it would be fantastic to play at the Olympic Stadium.

"There is strong competition here at the back but it is always going to be that way at a club like Liverpool. You have to always give the best of your ability and try and show what you can do when you get the chance to play in the first team. You can't drop your standards here.

"It was a good experience going on loan at Scunthorpe and it was a good eye opener to see how it was in the Championship. It started well but then I was left out of the team towards the end, which was disappointing.

"I am just going to try my best every day in training and see where it takes me. It's going to be tough and I'm under no illusions about that but I'm going to work as hard as I possibly can to try and show the manager I can do a good job for him.

"The boss and Sammy Lee speak to you a lot and they always give you encouragement. They also give you tips and advice on where they think you can improve. It's good because as a player you can only improve with the advice of someone like our manager."
