Holders knocked out

The Reds lost 5-3 to Sunderland after extra time in an end to end clash at the Stadium of Light to finally release their grip on the FA Youth Cup.

Liverpool were 2-0 down at half time thanks to goals from Joe Cornforth and Jordan Cook. However, Nathan Ecclestone scored a penalty and Marvin Pourie then scored to level the tie a mere three minutes into the second half.

Sunderland went ahead again after 72 minutes when Martyn Waghorn made it 3-2. Daniel Pacheco sent the game into extra time with an equaliser nine minutes from the end.

Waghorn made it 4-3 Sunderland on 104 minutes and wrapped the game up by completing his hat-trick five minutes from the end.
