Home is where the heartache is

Saturday's bitterly disappointing loss to Southampton was the fourth reverse at Anfield - all by the score of 2-1 - in just eight home Premiership fixtures.

With Bolton also victorious at what was once known as fortress Anfield in the Carling Cup, Houllier is gravely aware of the need to make opponents fear a trip to the Red half of Merseyside once more.

Houllier said: Our home form is a problem. We have lost too many points and lost too many games at Anfield. I would say we haven't always got what we have deserved from our home matches this year, but certainly we need to be picking up a lot more points.

"I think the important thing is that the fans are with us. They know we are struggling at the moment because we are without our main strikers. Those who were at the game yesterday will make allowances for that. Those who ring the radio phone-ins - I doubt it!"
