'Honest' Franny denies dive

The former Everton man was seen collapsing in a heap after rubbing past Jon Arne Riise to claim a penalty for the Gunners to equalise.

After the game Gerard Houllier could not contain his anger and accused Jeffers of conning referee Jeff Winter.

"I am extremely disappointed by comments attributed to Mr Houllier," said Jeffers.

"I'm an honest player and I certainly didn't dive for the penalty. As I turned and started to run, Riise grabbed me and also clipped my heel. It's as simple as that, it was a penalty.

"The referee was quick to blow to award the penalty and the linesman was even quicker to put his flag up. I don't have to defend myself."

The fact that Winter has claimed that Riise tugged Jeffers, rather than clipping his heel, shows that he had not seen the incident properly and a booking for the Liverpool defender was undeserved.
