Hou'll never walk away

"It really has never crossed my mind about turning my back on it," he admitted. "It has been a difficult time and there has been sadness at some of the events, but there have also been some highs too.

"For me, when we played against Levski Sofia and the crowd chanted my name after Steven Gerrard came to embrace me, it was in the same emotional vein as what happened when I returned from illness against Roma.

"These are truly touching moments and they display the bond between Liverpool and their supporters.

"You have to recognise it is due to Bill Shankly and, even though times have now changed, that bond, that value, is still there. That is why I would never consider turning away.

"I have a responsibility, this is a mission, and we are still heading in the right direction. My responsibility is that when things are not going right then I have to be even stronger, even more determined, because that is the contract I have with this club and its incredible supporters.

"I will not let them down. I enjoy so much working here, no matter what has happened, and I still believe we have shown, even when things have gone wrong, that we have got a team and got the ability to win trophies.

"If I thought otherwise, then, yes, it's the time to go but I know there is still a job to do."
