Houllier: A crisis is a good thing

Many fans had mistakenly thought that the very real possibility that Liverpool could miss out on a Champions League spot would be detrimental to the future of the club. Thankfully, though, Gerard Houllier was able to dispell such ill-thought arguments.

He said: It's good to go through a crisis at times, it stresses you and brings you more mental stamina for the future. Our future success will probably stem from that period, that bad period we had to go through.

"Sometimes we lack a bit of confidence but we never lack nerve and character.

"Through this period you can see the players showing commitment, character, determination. A difficult period is always an opportunity to learn.

"We aim to get back into the top four but it won't be easy because the other teams are also all doing well. I'm sure we will have a very exciting end to the season."
