Houllier and Hamann deny Munich rumours

Both player and manager, though, left considerable room for doubt with their respective statements. Hamann, in particular, was not prepared to rule out the possibility that he will end his stay at Anfield.

Hamann said: "I am very happy at Liverpool and my contract has two-and-a-half years to go. I am settled at the club, but who knows what might happen? In football never say never."

The intrigue continued when Houllier gave his version of events. The Reds boss, it seems, is not entirely convinced by Hamann's sentiments.

He told the club's official website that "Didi hasn't said he wants to leave though, unless it is his agent preparing something behind my back. Managers don't always control things when an agent is pulling strings behind his back.

"That's why you don't sign some players sometimes. But I like Didi and he knows that."

With Liverpool in need of funds to improve the squad it seems that Hamann may well be the highest profile player to leave Anfield in the summer.
