Houllier asks players to hold their nerve

After Liverpool's abject defeat at home to Charlton Athletic yesterday the Reds are now relying on Newcastle to slip up.

Houllier knows his team must keep their nerve in their remaining games and show more commitment and desire than they have done over the Easter period.

"We must make sure that we do not get nervous now in the final games. But we need more creativity and chances, and we know we can do that. That is why we were so disappointed. It is only about results and points, never mind the performance." said Le Genius.

Houllier continued:  "We have to raise our game from now on. Maybe the Arsenal game took more out of us than we thought, and maybe we were more effected from the mental point of view after that defeat than we thought.

"But you still must keep a clean sheet when it's not your day. It would have meant one point and we could not even do that, just one point could be absolutely vital at the end.

"But I still think it will go to the last game against Newcastle. The mistake would be to say it is over. But we are still fourth.

"Newcastle have a game in hand, but they are still in the UEFA Cup and have a tough fixture list. They may also still find themselves travelling in Europe before a big game.

"That can take a lot out of you. We must make the best of the coming games we have at home, and I do not think we will play as badly again."
