The London side currently lie 18th in the table, but a first home victory of the season against Blacburn has seen spirits rise ahead of a crucial clash with Liverpool. Houllier believes Glenn Roeder's team will prove their worth as the battle to avoid relegation becomes more fierce.

Houllier said: "I don't think they will go down. They have some good players, some of whom will be world class in the future.

"I like Glenn Roeder. He is a good man and a good manager. He has kept his dignity throughout the season and he deserves credit for that.

"One newspaper this week had a feature on managers under pressure and mentioned myself and Glenn. It should be a good game this weekend."
