Houllier backs Owen/Baros partnership

The Liverpool boss has often favoured the tested pair of Emile Heskey and Michael Owen but he admits that the sparkling form of Czech star Milan Baros has influenced him greatly.

Houllier said: "It's too early to say whether they can form a good partnership together, but I like what I have seen.

"But they seem to be enjoying playing for each other, with each other and they seem to look for each other. That's a good sign for the efficiency of the team."

Houllier expects that 21-year-old Baros will continue to improve in his bid to win a regular place in the Liverpool side.

He added: "I take pleasure in his improvement. He's always had a great attitude, he wants to play and he really cares about his game.

"A young player needs to find a balance between individual play, which is where they can improve and gain in confidence, and his awareness of the team situation and when he can do better for the team.

"Milan is benefiting from playing with the whole team. He's a young talent who needs to keep his feet on the floor and learn his trade gradually."
