Houllier backtracks on comments

The Reds boss believes critics have mis-interpreted his comments concerning the defeat. Houllier insists that he was not pleased to ease fixture congestion by exiting the FA Cup.

Houllier, speaking to Liverpool's official website, said: "This must not be mis-interpreted. I said it could be a blessing in disguise only in terms of how many games we might have to play. I never said it was a result we were happy about. In fact it made us very disappointed, despondent and sad. But you have to take the positive side of things in life otherwise you would commit suicide every day.

I felt the only good side is that we might have to play less games. When you are involved in a lot of competitions and when you want to get back into the top four it demands a lot of energy, particularly as I think we have played more games than anyone else this season. That's what I meant with my comment after the game, but don't think I was happy that we lost."
