It has been rumoured that the Czech international could be set to leave Liverpool after a frustrating spell on the sidelines. Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson was said to have been just one of many watching developments with a keen eye. Houllier, though, has revealed that the 21-year-old striker will play an important role in Liverpool's future.

Houllier said: "There have been no offers for Milan but even if there were I wouldn't let him go. It would be a big mistake if we sold him. Milan is a young player who is learning all the time. You should consider how far he has come in a year.

"This time last year nobody believed in him. He still has a lot to learn and he will do that here. We should remember he is still only 21 and you have to be careful with young talents.

"He has been involved in two thirds of our fixtures this season and will have an important part to play in our last six games and over many years to come.

"I have told Milan I believe in him. I know the decision to substitute him last week was harsh but he was a victim of circumstances. I thought Emile would give us more freshness because he has played less games in international week. Milan understood the decision."
