Houllier calls for fan support

Nicolas Anelka and, in particular, Robbie Fowler will undoubtedly receive great receptions on their first visits to Anfield since they left to continue their careers elsewhere. Houllier believes such a reaction is only right - but he insists that the fans must give their all for the cause of Liverpool once the whistle blows.

Houllier said: "The two boys know they will be made to feel most welcome by their former team-mates and they'll also receive a warm welcome from the crowd.

"At the same time I hope our fans understand that this game is more important for us than it is for Manchester City and that that warmth they give to Robbie and Nicolas before the game is then transferred to our players for the next 90 minutes."
