After a 1-1 draw at home to Marseille in the first-leg, Houllier knows that his star striker will be vital as the Reds go in search of the goal they need to keep alive their hopes of UEFA Cup success.

Houllier said: "I am confident Michael will score a goal for us over there. Against Wolves he lacked a bit of freshness but to fair to Michael he had a knock against Portsmouth. He couldn't train at all between that game and Wolves and he was probably tired.

"I'm confident in Marseille he can do it for us. We need a goal at least to qualify for the next round but I think we will score over there and I think it will be a great European night."
