Houllier calls for supporters to do their job

"What we really need more than anything is support," said the Liverpool boss. "In supporter, you find the word support, and as a club, we are in this situation together," he said.

"I think everyone has to understand the situation we're in. I'm not adopting defensive tactics. We are not playing negatively.

"But sometimes you have to dig in and safeguard a result in the last 10 minutes. What we need is understanding from the fans. We are no different from them, because we would like to win every game four or five-nil.

"If people could understand the situation we are in, they would realise the win over City was a big one for us and can help our confidence for the rest of the season.

"We have overcome a lot of adversity, given the injuries we have had, but we are in fourth place and things are looking up."
