Gerard Houllier is considering calling-off or delaying the proposed transfer of Senegal captain Salif Diao to Anfield.
Diao, sent off against Albania on Wednesday, was identified by the boss as cover for Gerrard and Hamann due to their World Cup participation. However with Gerrard now ruled out of the competition, he should be fit in time for the new campaign so Diao may not be needed.
If the transfer does proceed, and there's a strong chance it will, it is likely that he will be loaned back to Sedan which would also reduce the wage bill.
