Houllier content with Reds performance

Houllier felt his side could have returned to Merseyside with all three points, had it not been for a dubious penalty decision.

He said: "It was never a penalty. I'm not blaming the referee as he was conned by the dive of the player. What I can't agree with is Mr Winter said Riise pushed him back which did not happen. The player couldn't believe it and he was booked which I could not believe. Jeffers is a great comedian! Arsenal were very lucky getting the penalty, and they also had some luck with the same referee at Fulham."

The player who should have got the yellow card was Jeffers for diving. I think he should be punished as there was no contact from Riise. I have sympathy for the referee as it happened so quickly but I am very angry with Jeffers. He has more qualities than that"

The Reds boss, though, felt a draw was fair on the balance of play.

"On the balance of play you have to say it's a fair result. Arsenal are a very good side, the best in the Premiership and we had to be cautious at the start. The way it's gone for us recently, we were too shy in the first half but then did well in the second half. The title race starts here, it's not over for us!"
