Houllier defends playing style

The Reds boss believes that Liverpool's goal-scoring record this term proves that they are more then just a counter-attacking team - a claim that has made by many critics many times during Houllier's reign.

Houllier said: "How many goals have Newcastle scored this season? Just one more goal than us. I think this is a very unfair assessment to say we don't play attacking football.

"It's because one former player and a former manager of this club labelled us as a counter-attacking team.

"I watched the Arsenal v Man United game on TV and there is the same guy on the panel and he's saying "Oh, this is beautiful football. United have won the ball at the back, played two or three passes and hit Arsenal with a goal. This is United at their best'.

"So what do you call that? Is that not playing on the break like we are supposed to do? Is that not counter-attacking football too?

"We've been unfairly labelled as a team that defends. If that was the case we wouldn't have conceded so many goals this season."
