Houllier delighted with rampant Reds

A brace by Michael Owen, an own goal from Rovers defender Andy Todd and a second-half Emile Heskey strike marked a memorable attacking performance from Houllier's Champions League hopefuls.

With Milan Baros, John Arne Riise and Danny spurning easy chances when introduced in the second period, Houllier could only reflect on a scoreline that flattered the opposition far more than his own.

He said: "I am pleased and proud of my players performance. The attitude was spot on and the game was over after 25 minutes.

"Our first half performance was very good and then the last 20 minutes was outstanding. We applied ourselves well and that's our fourth Premiership clean sheet in a row which I'm delighted with.

"This was a strong, powerful and determined performance. We had 30 shots at goal and we are the team with the most shots at goal and the most corners, which isn't too bad for a boring team!

"I am pleased for Michael to get his goals and I thought Emile Heskey did very well. Emile made the first goal and scored after some fantastic unselfish play from Milan Baros. Milan could have scored himself but did brilliantly to set up Emile. Dioufy did well too making two goals.

"We could have scored six or seven goals out there today and I am delighted. John Arne Riise, Danny Murphy and Milan Baros all could have scored when they came on but we don't like to humiliate teams.

"I thought Milan was outstanding when he came on. I have to be careful with him and don't want to burn him out as he has just come back from serious injury. Don't forget he played most of the game against Leicester last Sunday and most of the game midweek for the Czech Republic.

"I thought Michael and Emile worked their socks off. With Blackburn everything goes through Tugay and Michael worked so hard against him."

The Reds boss also happy to lavish praise upon Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher after a fine week for the 26-year-old.

Houllier added: "Jamie was outstanding. He played the full 90 minutes for England midweek. The boy has totally changed. He looks after himself, he is technically better as an attacking full back, and he epitomises the spirit of this team. We have missed him the six months he was out and we have missed Milan Baros."
