The Reds have failed to defeat Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth in three attempts this season, while a late Kenny Miller strike earnt Wolves a point at home to Houllier's men in January.
With both struggling outfits visiting Anfield over the next three days, the under-fire Frenchman readily concedes that only six points will be enough in the quest for fourth place.
Houllier said: "All I know is we have to win these next two games (against Portsmouth and Wolves) if we are to reach the Champions League."
